Help Save the Detroit Symphony Orchestra – This may be your last chance!

logo1 Help Save the Detroit Symphony Orchestra This may be your last chance!
I am writing on an extrememly important matter regarding the Detroit Symphony Orchestra – they need your help. Even if you do not live in Detroit, this will affect your orchestra!

Ann Parsons, DSO President and CEO has written to the DSO Board of Directors that it may be time tosuspend the remainder of the 2010-11 season, as well as indefinitely defer the announcement of the 2011-12 season1

Go back and read that again. The president of the DSO wants to cancel the rest of this season and perhaps the next! If this happens, we may never save the DSO. As a music lover and citizen of Southeast Michigan, that should make you very very angry.

It has become increasingly clear that this strike is not about money. With the musicians agreeing to a 25% pay cut, they and management are only 2 million dollars apart on a contract that spans three years.  That means they are apart by less than $670,000 a year over the life of the contract.  Raising this amount should be no problem for a management staff whose leader earns over $400,000 a year. 2

No, this dispute is about a small group of people, mostly outsiders, with a desire to completely change the face of the DSO..and no one has given them the right to do so! 3

We need to act now, and here is what you can do:

1. If you have not already done so, add your name to the petition on our website adding your voice to ours, demanding a fair resolution to this dispute.

2.  Write a letter to the DSO Board of Directors asking them to act as responsible custodians and guardians of the DSO, rather than sitting by and letting a small handful of people destroy this beloved institution.  We will forward every letter to every board member. Every voice makes a difference:

3.  Spread the word! Ask everyone you know to write letters to the DSO board and sign our petition:

4. Write letters to the media:

5.  Call the DSO box office and voice your displeasure:

(313) 576-5111

6. Forward this email to your friends and family, everyone on your email list, and ask them as a personal favor to you, to sign the petition and write a letter.

This is it.  This is crunch time. If we do not act now, we may not have a Detroit Symphony Orchestra to save!

Thank you,
David Assemany Secretary, Save Our Symphony, Inc.
